Mobile Payments Today – 4/9/13: One of the bigger announcements to come out of this year’s Mobile World Congress was the unveiling of a mobile ecosystem built around the Mozilla Firefox operating system. Eighteen wireless carriers from around the world and four handset manufacturers joined in the announcement to show their support for the creation of an affordable smartphone based on the open-source operating system. The hope is that smartphones using Firefox’s mobile OS can bring smartphones to developing markets. The devices should start hitting the market within the next year.
